History
TeachESD.org is a research and teacher professional development project administered by the Drexel University McNichol Early Childhood Education Lab. In 2020, a conceptual framework entitled Teaching for Sustainability and Altruism through Project-Based Learning was published as a book chapter. In 2022, the framework was expanded to include practitioner guides for primary and secondary education and published in an updated book chapter (Emerald Publishing, in-press). Also in 2022, a detailed White Paper describing the conceptual framework, its application to PK - 12 teaching and teacher training and a strategic plan for the future development of the SAPBL project was commissioned by the Global Peace and Prosperity Forum in order to contribute these ideas to UNESCO's Transforming Education Initiative which team members are participating in.
A complete online course for teacher professional development around the SAPBL framework was first written and published on the Blackboard learner management system. In Spring, 2022, the first cohort of 40 PK - 4 teachers from the U.S. and China enrolled in the course and learned to apply the SAPBL framework in their classrooms.
