The SAPBL project is a Drexel University IRB approved study investigating how to foster children's altruism, and improve their ability to contribute to sustainable development, through project-based learning.
Additionally, the School District of Philadelphia's Office of Research has also approved this study.
Research Design
We conduct mixed-methods intervention studies to determine the effectiveness of attending the SAPBL course on teacher knowledge, attitudes and skills related to supporting sustainability and altruism.
Data Collection
Participants complete a demographic characteristic survey, a pre/post course evaluation survey and an interview. We use this data to improve the course curriculum and to publish what works in education for sustainability and altruism. Your name and data are keep anonymous and confidential when we publish or present information about the program.
Consent
All course participants are invited to consent to share their course participation data with the research team to improve course performance. To enroll in the study you will first register to take the online course and then a research team member will email you a copy of the research consent form which describes your participation and rights as a participate. You do not need to sign and return the form - it serves as an informational study disclosure. You can withdraw from the study at any time by emailing a team member, while remaining enrolled in the course itself.
Incentive
As a research participation thank you, a VISA gift card (ranging between $30 - 100) is provided to all participants who complete at least 80% of the course content and submit the evaluation surveys. An additional amount ($20 - $30) will be added to your gift card if you complete the post course interview.
